How do I know what size of the cone to put on the road?

The size of the cone that you use is determined by the speed at which traffic uses the road. On most roads in a built-up area, the speed limit is 30mph and cone height required is 450mm (18").

When you start working on a motorway you then need a 750mm (30") cone but you will find most contractors use a 1m cone. You can use bigger cones but you should not use smaller ones.
